Devotion for 3 July
A brief prayer is offered that you can add to your daily
prayers this week. The scripture is from our Sunday Service Bulletin for
today. We are starting a summer sermon
series on Psalms. Today we celebrate Independence Day!
OT READING: Psalm
33:10-12 (English Standard Version)
The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He
frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11 The counsel of the Lord stands
forever, the plans of His heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the
nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen as His heritage!
Devotion: One Nation
Under God
In our sermon today we talked about things which have helped
America a success. We truly stand out as a beacon to the other peoples in the
world. I think a little bragging would be appropriate on our country’s 2016 birthday
celebration. God was at work in the founding of this nation (all the signs are
there in the branding of America—imagery on our currency and on our buildings
in D.C.) Democratic republics only work when populated by a moral society
(consider the history of failed republics in the world where morals declined).
Americans have been grateful (as we should be) for our government, have
expressed that pride, and have worked hard to preserve it. Finally, our
founders put in place, checks and balances, which have been a key discriminator
for sustaining a stable government. Americans have a lot to be thankful for.
There are few places in the world that have the appeal and attraction of our
Nation.
We pray: Lord thank You
for our country and the freedom to worship You. Amen
