Devotion for 29 May, Memorial Day

A brief prayer is offered that you can add to your daily prayers this week. The scripture is from our Sunday Service Bulletin for today, Memorial Day.
GOSPEL READING John 12:26 (English Standard Version)
If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there will My servant be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.”
Devotion: Those Who Serve
Our national holiday, Memorial Day, is meant for us to honor those who have given their lives in the service of our country. The things we sometimes take for granted, such as social justice, national security, rule of law, freedom of speech, stable elected governance, are things that make us the greatest country in the world. Protecting all these freedoms from foreign intervention was not free. This weekend,  we set aside time to reflect and thank those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Today in our worship service we also honored those who serve in a church leadership capacity and help build up God’s Kingdom. If you think about it, as Christians, we also should think and pray about the One who laid down His life for all of us so we could live our lives secure in the promise of Salvation.

We pray: Lord thank you for your unconditional love and the ultimate sacrifice of Your Son our Savior.   Amen
