Today is the Sunday before Epiphany.  We celebrate the Magi who arrived from the east bearing gifts for the new born child.  May we use the newborn life we have in the Savior to use our gifts for the kingdom.

People love Christmas lights!  Some decorate their houses with so many lights they can practically be seen from space.  The first Christmas didn’t have electricity. If there was light in the stable at all, it would have been from a small oil lamp.  But a light did shine that night and the Glory of God shone all around. May His light shine on us this evening.

Today we add straw to our manger.  Normally we would put hay here, but today we put straw. How can that be?  Won’t the animals starve?  But we place straw in the manger and then trust in God.   Mary needed to trust in God, also.  May her response help us this morning.

Today we add the manger to the Nativity Scene.  The manger really is just a feeding trough.  It was likely filled with hay for the animals.  But God had a better purpose for the manger.  Something greater is coming.  May God help us see that something great is coming today.
